Ein authentischer Panama ist ein Material und keine Hutform, komplett handgewebt aus dem Toquilla-Stroh in Ecuador.

Die H\u00fcte aus Ecuador, die in die USA gelangten, trugen deshalb allesamt den Zollstempel aus Panama. Endg\u00fcltig der Stempel aufgedr\u00fcckt wurde dem Panamahut von Pr\u00e4sident Theodore Roosevelt, der sein Haupt w\u00e4hrend einer Besichtigung des Panamakanals 1906 mit dem unverkennbaren Hut vor der Sonne sch\u00fctzte.<\/p>
